A family of lighthouse keepers

Every family has their story. Mine is one of lighthouses and their keepers. As a child, I remember the nights spent sitting on the corner of my bed, watching as the beam from the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse went round and round. To me, it was more than just a lighthouse. It was my savior in the dark. I'd watch that light until my eyes grew heavy and I no longer cared if those make believe monsters were out to get me.

Life is funny though. Growing up changes the way one views things. Yes, I still smile when I recall my childhood memories of those nights. But the years have turned me into a history and genealogy buff. Which in turn led me into the exploration of the grand history so many lighthouses shared with my ancestors. From Thomas Point Shoals to Cape Hatteras and all the way down to Hunting Island Light, I can claim family that have manned these light stations.

So it is with that point of view, that I am now able to tell the story of my Great Grandparents and their shared lives among the lights. The National Archives has been such a source of information for me in this venture. Along with my family and their shared memories and photographs, I am in the midst of writing a fiction/non-fiction book which gives the reader a point of view like no other. It is not only a historical look at their lives, but one that also comes from the heart.
